This year, French Year 13 students studied Molière's Le Misanthrope as part of their A-Level literature course, and they loved it.
The sharp humor and satirical critique of society resonated with them, especially in today’s world, where themes of honesty, hypocrisy, and social norms still feel incredibly relevant. The complex character of Alceste, with his fierce disdain for society and his struggle with personal integrity, sparked interesting debates and reflections. The students enjoyed how the play's wit and irony kept them engaged, and many found the language both challenging and rewarding to analyze.
Overall, they appreciated how Molière’s exploration of human nature, through humor and insight, made the play both intellectually stimulating and enjoyable.
