This week in Y3B we investigated why it is important for motorcyclists to wear helmets. In this investigation, a hardboiled egg represented (model) a person's head.

The shell was the bone of the skull and the egg was the brain. Half of the heads were wrapped in bubble wrap acting as our 'helmets' while the remaining eggs were left as they were without the protective headgear. The students dropped their persons from an already measured height of about 50cm. We made sure our tests were conducted fairly to attain the most accurate results - meaning we dropped them at the same time and from the same height. We were able to draw the following conclusion from this investigation - it is important to protect our brains/heads by wearing helmets at all times during skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, bike riding, rollerblading and horseback riding. By wearing a helmet, a rider provides a safety measure cushioning the brain from the impact and trauma.

So, our Y3B message to all is to USE YOUR HEAD AND WEAR A HELMET!!!
