There is something about autumn and F2 children. As the days become shorter and the nights grow colder, they start turning into little explorers curious to find out more about…well, to be honest, lots of things, but, this time, we thought autumn, in all its splendor, would make an excellent subject.

And so, hand in hand with the beautiful weather and with eyes wide open, we set off to Topciderski park. The golden brown scenery, packed with exciting things to see and collect, was a perfect setting for our exploration. There they were: nature’s own shakers (carob pods), spiky balls (you may know them as plane tree seeds) and the tree, almost two centuries old, from which they came from, black alder tree (that can help you dye your Halloween costume in an appropriate colour), pine cones, hazelnuts, molehills and even a stream. But, the most captivating thing we came upon was Osage orange tree, also known as horse apple tree. We couldn’t help but be impressed by it - greenish, bumpy fruit that rolls like a ball, sharp-thorned branches that make a perfect hedge and its timber the best bows. Yet, it was a look inside the fruit that blew us away. Though apparently not very popular among insects, its sticky white sap and woody pulp proved to be a source of enormous interest for us.

Of course, as tradition commands, all autumn walks must end with showers of golden leaves and happy jumps into piles of them. This one, to our delight, was no exception!
