We started our project talking about what makes our good friends good and special. We made a list of those good qualities and wrote them into a recipe.
The Good Friend Recipe Ingredients:
A jar of kindness
A spoonful of listening
A can of honesty
A tube of trust
A carton of patience
1 kg of forgiveness
A box of encouragement
A pot of respect
A bag of loyalty
A pocket full of courage
And a bottle of fun
The children a.k.a Chartwell’s Greatest Chefs wrote out the recipe in their PD notebooks. Then they used dictionaries to find the definitions of all of these attributes (ingredients). After doing that, they each picked one ingredient to work on a bit closer. They had to produce a colourful poster with a clear title, definition and scenario of what that ingredient meant to them.
We also made matching chefs hats to go along with the posters and once finished we decided to present our recipe to the year 2, 3 and some of our year 1 friends in a small type-like assembly.
