Forces are all around us and affect everything we do. Year 6 students know that very well. They learned long time ago that a force is a push or a pull. They all understand how forces can make objects move or stop, speed them up or slow them down and make objects change direction or shape.
In Science class, the task was to make a parachute and save an egg. Working in groups, students tried out different ideas, coming up with a strategy. They put a lot of thought into choosing the material for the parachute, deciding on the size and trying to cushion the fall by protecting the egg.
Once the students named their eggs and drew faces on them, things got very personal. Some eggs survived and some did not, but we all had great fun.
