Pi is the most studied number in mathematics. Pi is an irrational number and, by definition, it is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. In other words, Pi equals the circumference divided by the diameter. It does not matter how big or small the circle is, Pi remains the same. Pi is often written using the symbol π and is pronounced "pie", just like the dessert.
March 14 or 3/14 is celebrated, as Pi Day because of the first three digits, which are 3.14.
Chartwell students celebrate Pi Day traditionally today! Years 7,8 and 9 participated in various Maths and Art projects. First of all we had the Art exhibition (Art inspired by numbers) where students made an exhibition of drawings showing their illustration of the Pi number. Then, they worked in groups and created a paper ribbon with decimals and different kinds of patterns that represented decimals of the Pi number. Students also solved various logical tasks.
The most interesting part of the celebration were two small competitions – memorizing decimals of Pi and pie eating without using hands.
