Chartwell International School

Dear Chartwell Parents,

Welcome back to the start of another school year! We trust you all were able to stay safe and sound throughout the summer break and that everyone is ready to get back to the classroom. The teachers and staff are looking forward to seeing everyone back in the schools.

Although the situation is different in many ways, the excitement is still the same. The Chartwell staff has been very busy over the summer with their regular preparations and there are many new renovations this year to our buildings and grounds. Our camps in Pre-school and Primary were run successfully all summer long, and we showed that with all the preventive safety measures put in place (especially during the second wave of the virus), learning and fun activities could still take place.

As we put the final touches into place, we would like to inform you that we will be returning to conventional, regular classroom instruction at the various premises, with the health and safety of everyone as our main priority.

The 2020/21 school year will begin on Tuesday, 1st September 2020.

The final preparation is in the full swing - school stationery, equipment and new buildings for Primary and Secondary schools are coming to its final phase. We have managed to build two new spacious buildings in just 10 months, during the Covid-19 pandemic period, and we are more than proud to announce that with these facilities, we have more spatial capacities than number of students to start the new school year. Hence, with two buildings for the Pre-school, 3 buildings for the Primary and 2 buildings for the Secondary school, Chartwell has a luxury to accommodate up to 900 students. This is very important at this point of time, taking into consideration all recommendations given to social distancing.

During the past few weeks, we have been in contact with the Ministry of Education and the local health authorities. We have received from them a list of suggested health guidelines. Therefore, to safeguard children, teachers and staff, Chartwell will be implementing the following:

  • Masks - the school will provide students with certain amount of masks. Students will be required to wear face coverings IN the schools at all times. When students are outside, they will not be required to wear a mask. We expect full cooperation form you as parents in these difficult times. Make sure to explain your child/ren the necessity of wearing masks in the school, as well as social distancing.
  • Temperature Checks - Each morning, parents should take their child's temperature and keep them at home if they have a fever or any other medical condition. We strongly depend on the full parent's support to further cooperation on this very sensitive matter.
  • Social Distancing - All of classes will be fewer than 15 students and students will be spaced apart. We will also take great care during the break times in order to follow the social distancing rules.
  • Hygiene - We will continue to enforce washing hands and using hand sanitizer.

We will continue to safeguard the well-being of your children and make sure that Chartwell continues to be a healthy learning environment.

We will be notifying you with more information pertinent to your child/ren's year group next week, prior to the school's beginning.

With kindest regards,
Chartwell International School

The first major investment for the 2020-21 school year is a new primary building in Tolstojeva. Together with the existing one, it accommodates students from year 1 to year 4. This new building encompasses four levels and is connected to the current Lower Primary building. Its area is 900m2, with a maximum capacity of 220 students. It has 12 classrooms, an IT lab, Art classroom, space for learning, dining area.

The second investment is a new building for the upper secondary students - Years 10 to 13, which is situated in Aleksandra Stamboliskog Street. It is a four level facility, with the total area of 2250 m2 - the capacity of the building is 380 students. There are 21 classrooms in the building, IT and Science lab, ART classroom, library, study hall, dining area, sports fields.

Both buildings are furnished with contemporary school furniture and state-of the-art educational equipment. Modern installations and electro-installations have been put in, a class 6A IT network, floor heating and the VRF heating and cooling system with fan coil appliances. Considering the climate change era that we live in, the era of pandemics and air pollution, both buildings are equipped with the most modern technology for treating and purifying air through HEPA Class 9 filters, UV lamps and ionizers of air. With these canal air purifying systems, our students are enabled to reside in spaces with fresh, purified air with no allergens. This increases the focus of both teachers and students, it eliminates tiredness and headaches, humidity and draught.

Also, some changes have been made to the Tolstojeva's playground, to compliment the snack and lunch recess periods. We added some facilities tailored to meet the age requirements and make students' playtimes an enjoyable pastimes.
