Sugar is bad for our teeth – we all know that, but seeing is believing!
During Health and Hygiene Week at Chartwell International School, the children from 3F conducted a scientific investigation in correlation with Personal Development to show exactly what sugar does to our teeth. Since eggshells are made of a substance similar to the enamel of our teeth, we used them to conduct our experiment. One eggshell was placed into a cup containing sugary juice, and the other into a cup with water. The eggs were observed daily to see if any changes occurred to the shells.
Results: After a few days, the eggshell in the water showed no damage, but the eggshell in the sugary juice began to rot. This proved that water is healthier for our teeth.
