In the heart of our Upper Primary school, a once plain and lifeless concrete pavement lot has been transformed into a vibrant tapestry of colors, creativity, and community. The pavement lot, which lines the side of the school playground, was selected as part of an art project designed to encourage self-expression, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for visual storytelling among students.
The artistic journey began with a simple idea: to turn a dull space into something that reflects the spirit and imagination of the students. Under the guidance of our Ms Jelena, Art teacher, students participated in the brainstorming sessions to decide on a theme. Ideas flowed freely—nature, friendship, diversity, school life, and dreams. Eventually, a collective decision was made to portray “Our World Through Our Eyes,” a theme that allowed every child to contribute something meaningful.
Sketches were first drawn on paper. Each student designed a small part of the mural, from trees and animals to books, sports, and smiling faces. The art teacher then helped to combine these elements into one large, cohesive design.
As the mural came to life, so did a sense of pride and ownership. Students eagerly pointed out which parts they had painted. “That’s my sun!” one would say, while another proudly showed off a butterfly or a soccer ball.
Beyond aesthetics, the project taught valuable lessons of cooperation, patience, and creativity. Mistakes were fixed together, and every child’s contribution—no matter how small—was treated as important.
Now, the lot stands not just as a piece of art, but as a story written in color and imagination. It is a reminder that even in a concrete space, beauty can bloom when young minds come together with brushes and dreams!
